As many of you know from reading our post on the Woof Walk Challenge, we signed up to walk 1000km by the end of December! And if you haven’t read the original post you can read it HERE. You can also sign up with us or donate to our challenge as it is for a good cause!
New Adventures!
We had a lot of new adventures over the past week! It has started getting hot in Toronto so most of our walks were down at the beach where the dogs could have a swim and drink and cool off easily. And I really think the most exciting thing for Benson has been finding the house with the chickens and bunnies right beside the boardwalk! I now get DRAGGED over there every time we walk that way!
New Friends!
We have met a lot of new friends on our walks! Both of the dog and human kind! We know many of the dogs at the houses we pass and have met many new friends wherever we go! Grace and Benson in particular LOVE the morning trip to the dog park as they have become very close with that group of dogs. They have also come to know me as well! As a result they will come RUNNING full tilt as soon as I get into the dog park for pets and treats!
New Walking Gear!
When you sign up for the Woof Walk Challenge you get a LOT of new walking gear! So I was really amazed at what came in the mail. And it came really quickly and was packed neatly into a black bag with a Woof Walk sticker sealing it up.
Tired Doggos
Besides the benefits of getting exercise, my dogs are TIRED by the end of the day! And we all know the saying that a tired dog is a good dog…
Cleaner Back Yard
One of the things that is an unexpected highlight is that my dogs are using the back yard a lot less to do their business! Since they are doing it on walks instead! So I am having to spend a lot less time going out to clean up the mess which is GREAT!
One Week Results
After our morning walk today, we are at almost 37km towards our 1000km goal!!! So only about 963km left to go! But it doesn’t seem quite as daunting as it did when we signed up! But I have noticed that the dogs are slimming down a bit. Which is really good as Berners are prone to being overweight and joint problems. Also, being fit and healthy will help to keep their joints safe and hopefully lead to less problems down the road.
And we have gotten into more of a routine which is great for all of us! As a result, if I am running even FIVE minutes behind you can bet that the dogs will get disruptive to the point I have no choice but to put down what I am doing!
Join us next week for our next update!!!
